born in 1989
A rare artist as she works with horsehair inspired by Korea’s millinery tradition for men. Horsehair has been used by many different cultures in a number of ways. It was used for making brushes, instruments, furniture and more. Dahye has transformed this ancient material into one-off three dimensional objects using traditional Korean weaves that was applied to create men’s headwear. The method she uses is painstaking. Dahye refers to her making as “an investment of time”, the invisible material in her work. She is constantly reflecting on herself as a human being and the making itself is a way of maintaining a specific mind-control. She describes this as “sincerity of time”.
Dahye won the Grand Prize at the 2021 Cheongju International Craft Competition. She was the winner for the Loewe Foundation Craft Prize in 2022. Her first solo show was featured in London, UK for Craft Week.
Her work is collected by the Loewe Foundation and the British Museum.
