Metal

Woosun Cheon trained in metal making. He began experimenting with vessel shapes, more specifically jars inspired by Korean ceramics from 2015. Based on different forms, he developed a method of dividing space into small units. He interprets space as though he is sketching in pencil. Each piece of wire is a line, and they meet to create a whole piece. Depending on the intended effect the lines are assembled in different directions. So the temperament and the mind of the making is an essential part of the creative work. Linear experimentation is the core. For this the making skill has to match the effect. Each wire is individually welded together with a lot of precision. Over the years, Woosun has truly mastered the skill of welding and finishing.

Like many Korean artists, because of the Confucian tradition, the mindset is the core of all making. Woosun is inspired by his surrounding environment and people. His work is in the collection of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Korea, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, USA.
